It's been very surreal to be on the other side of the world on such an all American holiday. It's strange not to be up to my elbows in turkey, potato, stuffing, pies, and all of the preparations that go with it. It's strange not to be full of parades and football. But today I am thankful for so much. And we have had the privilege of spending this Thanksgiving in a special place, with special people.
We took a trip out to the Guangzhou Zoo this morning. Xue Lin has never seen real animals, just in books and on television, so he had a real treat.
After the zoo we went to Pizza Hut. Xue Lin made it quite clear to our guide, Miss Amy, that he preferred to go to McDonalds and was very disappointed that he didn't get his way. From what we can tell, he always got his way and very quickly. Looks like some interesting adjustments are coming his way!
This evening our group decided to get together for Thanksgiving dinner in the hotel dining room. From what we had heard they had a traditional American buffet available. Unfortunately, when we were told the price, our plans changed quickly! This year our Thanksgiving dinner consisted of burgers, and for Andrew, udon noodles with fish & tofu (he read the menu himself and that's what he ordered!). Blogger is being weird about uploading photos, so I'll wait until tomorrow to post photos of dinner and our "bread turkey". We all actually had a really good time and a very memorable Thanksgiving....

Best of luck on taming the "I get my way" beast. We had it pretty rough with our little prince and he was only two at the time!
