Taking on DC

Sunday arrived and we said goodbye to sweet Lottie's family after breakfast (Lottie hadn't been feeling well, so her family decided to call it a trip and head home) - the 3 remaining families decided to head into DC to do a little sightseeing.
Thankfully, Mr Ian is the seasoned pro in the group and most brave tour guide.  It was decided that they would lead the way and we would follow (we really wanted to just hitch our car to their bumper after our directional challenges the entire weekend - if left to our own devices we would have ended up very far from where we needed to be!!!)   Our little caravan of 3 cars went from the hotel to a parking garage in downtown DC without a single hitch and the weather started to improve!!

At the risk of being a total tourist - I had to get a shot that we were actually ON Pennsylvania Ave - little did I know that we had been so busy gawking at the Washington Monument that we completely MISSED the White House on the other side.  And that was the exact moment my phone decided to act weird so we MISSED Kristi's phone call telling us to "look on the other side!!!!!!!!" - I guess we'll just have to go back....

First stop was the National Archives - we decided to stop in, since there was absolutely no line to get in.  We headed directly to the area where they keep the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.  It may sound silly, but I really couldn't help but be filled up with emotion in that room.  Those words, those dreams, those rights.  And I looked down at Caroline, Kylie, Caleb, and my Gracie - I couldn't help but think that it's only by God's grace that those rights and opportunities belong to them now.  If the Lord had not interviened in their lives - every word, every right, and every opportunity outlined in the US Constitution and Declaration that we take for granted every day - was not for them.  Now their inheritance is full of freedoms that those in their homeland only dream of.  Just blows me away sometimes.

Whew, I just got chills reading the last paragraph! Thanks for the reminder that we are so blessed to have been born in a country with such freedoms, rights, and opportunities!
Oh, and Ian loves serving as tour guide. Just let us know if you ever want to meet in DC again for a few days. If you can order some better weather we'd love to enjoy the sights of our nation's capital with you!
