New Girl

When we made the move south, Becca had a hard time with it.  Especially starting a new middle school, at the end of the year, the year before moving to high school. Everyone else had known each other forever.  She was the "new girl" - and everyone seemed to know who she was as soon as she arrived.  (She couldn't wait for another new kid to come along after so the pressure would be off!)

Her homeroom teacher has a sense of humor....

Becca worried that she was unprepared and that she wouldn't catch up.  They have integrated math here.  She had to take Georgia History. They diagram sentences.  All things she didn't learn up north and basically had to teach herself.

Last week we recieved a note in the mail requesting Becca's attendance at honors night.  She wracked her brain for a week to figure out what she could be getting.

On Monday we went to Honors Night.  As we read the program, we tried to guess to no avail.  Most of the honors were group things and she wasn't involved in them.  The evening went on and there were only 2 or 3 award categories left. We all started to get nervous (oh my goodness, what if they forgot her?!?! maybe we didn't have to be here!!) and we started to joke a little wondering how I was going to pick up the pieces to such a dissapointment.

They reached the next to the last award category.  The Presidential Award for posessing one of the top 10 GPA's in the 8th grade.   They called her name!!!

Way to go New Girl!!!!!
